Saudi authorities have temporarily closed several branches of B Laban, an Egyptian dessert chain, after reports of food poisoning linked to its products surfaced.
The Saudi Ministry of Municipalities and Housing reportedly confirmed that it took action after receiving complaints, conducting inspections, and implementing necessary regulatory measures. “As a precautionary measure, the establishment’s factories and branches have been temporarily closed until the necessary verification and analysis processes are completed,” the ministry stated.
““The necessary measures have been taken in accordance with regulatory procedures that ensure the safety and health of all, noting that most of the suspected cases of food poisoning have recovered, while the remaining cases are receiving the necessary healthcare and are in stable condition,” read the statement, as per Egypt Independant.
While most affected individuals have recovered, some remain under medical care but are in stable condition, according to the ministry.
Although the ministry did not specifically name the establishment, the announcement follows reports of B Laban outlets in Riyadh, Khobar, and Mecca being closed, with videos circulating on social media showing shuttered stores.
The ministry reiterated that consumer health and safety is a top priority and urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate updates.
Founded in 2021, B Laban quickly gained a strong following in Egypt, with over 55 branches. The brand expanded its reach to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and Jordan, opening its first stores in these countries in early 2024.
