Just days after launching a wheat hybridization project, Sharjah has achieved another milestone with the first harvest of natural honey from the Al Muntathar Reserve, focusing on the emirate’s dedication to developing a sustainable and organic food system.

The Chairman of the Agriculture and Livestock Department and CEO of Iktifa, Dr Engineer Khalifa Musabah Al Tuniji, emphasized that Sharjah’s landscapes, particularly the mountainous, contribute significantly to the exceptional quality of honey produced locally, reports Khaleej Times.

“The honey production initiative is vital for sustainable agricultural development and supports our organic food security system,” he added. The first batch of organic honey is slated for market release in November 2024, with full-scale commercial production anticipated in 2025, a year designated as the “Golden Year” by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.

By leveraging the abundant natural resources of Sidr, Samr, and Ghaf trees, Sharjah aims to position itself as a leading hub for sustainable beekeeping. This initiative not only contributes to the emirate’s food security but also promotes environmental conservation through pollination.
