Motorists in Sharjah can now apply to cancel traffic violations that are 10 years old or more from the date of issuance, according to a new decision announced by the Sharjah Executive Council.

A fee of Dh1,000 will be charged for each cancellation request. However, the council outlined specific exemptions where this fee would not apply:

  1. If the vehicle owner has passed away, with proof of death provided.
  2. If the owner has been outside the country for at least 10 consecutive years.
  3. If the vehicle was abandoned and it is impossible to reach the owner.

The decision was made during a council meeting held at the Ruler’s Office on Tuesday morning. The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, and attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, also Deputy Ruler and Deputy Chairman.

Motorists interested in availing of the cancellation should provide the required documentation and pay the fee unless exempt under the specified cases.
