In a shocking turn of events, King Felipe VI of Spain encountered an unexpected tragedy as he faced the wrath of angry residents during his visit to Valencia, a region severely impacted by devastating floods that have claimed over 210 lives. As the royal couple toured the affected areas to express solidarity with the victims, they were met with hostility, with mud and eggs thrown at them.

The incident occurred in Paiporta, just outside Valencia city, where the king, accompanied by Queen Letizia, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and regional governor Carlos Mazon, reportedly faced chants of ‘murderer’ from frustrated residents. The crowd’s discontent peaked as they felt the government had responded inadequately to the disaster.

“I understand the social anger, and of course, I’m here to receive it. This is my political and moral obligation,” Mazon said in a statement on X. The back window of the Prime Minister’s car was broken, forcing him and other local leaders to leave quickly. While Sánchez acknowledged the sadness and frustration of the people, he condemned the violence.

The situation is further complicated as Spain’s meteorological agency issued a ‘red alert’ for new storms in the Valencia region on Sunday, with heavy rain beginning to fall overnight.
