A recent study has revealed that many people in the UAE are trying to use weight loss injections as a quick solution. However, these methods can pose significant health risks. While individuals need to consult with a healthcare professional before making any decisions, it is observed that many hop onto such trends under the influence.
Dr Wafa Halmi Ayash, a clinical nutrition consultant and Director of Therapeutic Nutrition at Tadawi Specialised Hospital, has stated that nine of her patients have been admitted to intensive care units due to pancreatitis linked to weight loss injections. She emphasizes the importance of consulting with a doctor and nutritionist before using these injections and warns against self-medication, reports Khaleej Times.
As per her, while weight loss injections can be safe when used appropriately, many individuals are opting for these treatments without proper guidance, leading to serious health consequences. She elaborates that it is crucial to seek professional advice and follow recommended guidelines to ensure safe and effective weight loss.
In a blog post, Burjeel Hospital suggests that the increasing use of fat burners has been a growing concern for healthcare professionals, who urge the public to adopt healthy lifestyle habits instead. The article further states that there is no ‘quick fix’ for weight loss. More so, doctors are warning against taking shortcuts to lose weight, despite the temptation to do so, as it may cause more harm than good.
Dr. Mohammad Fityan, Consultant Internal Medicine and HoD Weight Management Clinic, at Burjeel Medical City, reportedly said, “There is limited evidence that fat burners aid in weight loss. The majority of studies found no benefit to fat burners in terms of weight or body composition.”
