Former President Trump suggests a consultative role for Musk due to his business commitments if re-elected.

Former President Donald Trump indicated that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, would probably not be able to serve in his hypothetical White House cabinet due to the extensive demands of managing his numerous companies.

In an interview with former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan, Trump stated, “He wants to be involved. Now look, he’s running big businesses and all that, so he can’t, really, I don’t think he could be cabinet.” He continued, “I’d put him in the cabinet, absolutely, but I don’t know how he could do that with all the things he’s got going.”

Trump’s comments appear to provide a potential exit strategy from his recently established alliance with Musk, should he win the upcoming November election against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

Trump also suggested that Musk could serve in a consultative capacity, saying, “He can sort of, as the expression goes, consult with the country and give you some very good ideas.” Trump cited artificial intelligence as a specific area where Musk’s input could be valuable.

Just two years ago, Trump and Musk were openly at odds, exchanging barbs on social media and at political rallies. However, their relationship has shifted dramatically in the lead-up to this election, with Musk increasingly engaging in right-wing politics. Last month, Musk publicly endorsed Trump shortly after an assassination attempt on the former president.

Earlier this year, Musk helped to establish a pro-Trump super political action committee (PAC) in May. Meanwhile, Trump has reactivated his presence on X (formerly Twitter) after a prolonged absence during which he posted exclusively to Truth Social, a platform owned by Trump Media.

Both Trump and Musk have floated the idea of collaborating in a governance capacity if Trump secures a second term in office. In a recent discussion streamed on X, Musk proposed, “I think it would be great to just have a government efficiency commission,” adding, “And I’d be happy to help out on such a commission.”

As Trump and Musk continue to explore this newfound alliance, their evolving relationship suggests potential for collaboration in various capacities, with Musk possibly offering his expertise on a consultative basis rather than a formal cabinet role.
