UAE Cabinet Approves National AI Policy To Guide Global Governance & Responsible Use

The UAE Cabinet has officially approved the country’s stance on global artificial intelligence (AI) policy, outlining how the nation intends to navigate the challenges and opportunities posed by AI. This policy establishes the UAE’s position on responsible AI development, emphasizing its goals, priorities, and the ethical framework that will guide its use.

The UAE’s policy supports the creation of international regulations to ensure accountability for AI tools that could cause harm or destabilize systems. It also advocates for the formation of global alliances to govern, secure, and promote the safe advancement of AI technologies. The policy encourages responsible AI use through research and development aimed at fostering peace and stability, with a focus on ensuring security, privacy protection, and data safety.

Key Goals of the Policy According to Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, the UAE is committed to leveraging AI to benefit society while playing an active role in shaping international AI governance. Al Olama highlighted that the nation aims to align AI advancements with societal well-being, economic diversification, and innovation.

“The UAE has become a significant player in the global governance of artificial intelligence, actively contributing to international policy discussions and helping define the standards and frameworks that will shape the future of AI,” he stated.

Six Core Principles The UAE’s AI policy is built on six core principles:

  1. Advancement – Promoting AI as a tool for progress and development.
  2. Cooperation – Encouraging global collaboration on AI governance.
  3. Community – Ensuring AI is developed to benefit society.
  4. Ethics – Aligning AI development with ethical standards.
  5. Sustainability – Promoting environmentally conscious AI innovations.
  6. Security – Ensuring the safe and secure use of AI technologies.

Boosting UAE’s Global Leadership in AI Omran Sharaf, assistant foreign minister for Advanced Science and Technology, emphasized that the adoption of this policy reinforces the UAE’s position as a leader in AI development and usage. By aligning the nation’s foreign policy with global AI standards, Sharaf said, the UAE empowers local stakeholders, including private enterprises and research institutions, to address AI challenges on a global scale.

With the approval of this policy, the UAE strengthens its commitment to contributing to responsible AI governance while fostering technological innovation that aligns with social, ethical, and environmental priorities.
