The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump at his Florida golf course.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE expressed its sympathy with presidential candidate Donald Trump and his family, and the government and people of the United States, reports the Emirati news agency, WAM.

The statement highlights that the UAE expresses its categorical condemnation of such criminal and extremist acts, and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence.

American media outlets report that a man named Ryan Wesley Routh is suspected of trying to assassinate the former American president. Reportedly, the suspect depicts himself on social media as a “freedom fighter”.

On Sunday, the U.S. Secret Service announced that there was a “protective incident” involving the former president. The statement also said the former president was safe. Reportedly, gunshots rang out near the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach after agents unloaded shots at the suspected assassin.
