With responsibilities piling up on people’s plates, it gets hard sometimes to make the right choices. Several reports that have been floating on the internet in recent days highlighted how many women are looking for hybrid or work-from-home options to look after their kids. Now, we hear from mothers in the UAE who share their parenting stories and emphasize the importance of raising children in an environment surrounded by their parents.
Rheema Menon, Civil Engineer, and Lifestyle Influencer, said, “As parents, our child’s safety and well-being are our top priorities. Knowing that my child is in trustworthy hands gives me peace of mind and allows me to focus on work without constant worry about their day-to-day activities.”
Many parents express confidence in entrusting their children to family members, believing they can provide even better care in their absence, offering peace of mind and allowing them to leave home without regret.
“On the other hand, relying on a house help would require thorough background checks on their experience with children, followed by continuous monitoring through cameras. Despite these precautions, I would still feel a lingering fear about whether everything is truly okay. Unfortunately, we often hear unsettling stories of children being mistreated by nannies, which further fuels this concern,” Menon explained.
More so, many have observed that children raised by family members often show increased emotional maturity and a deeper understanding of their cultural values.
Rheema added, “My daughter communicates openly with us and feels secure discussing any topic, which reflects the trust and comfort we share as a family. Additionally, she has become more loving and appreciative, showing a clear awareness of the efforts we put into her upbringing and the opportunities we provide for her.”
Arpita Shah, a Lifestyle Influencer, shared similar sentiments, revealing that she left her dream job to raise her children.
“As an ex-investment banker, who worked for 5 years and left her job, her dream job, just to raise her kids in a homely environment, I can say if I had any set of parents here, I would have continued to work in the banking field. But having kids and getting a third person or helping to raise them was not on my cards. I wanted to raise them because I chose to bring them to this world,” remarked Arpita.
“With parents, that would have been easier as no stress to worry about kids. I started the content creation journey only because I can be with my kids and work flexibly. They can play, eat, and shoot videos with me. I don’t have to keep a check on cameras while working, because I know what they are eating, doing, and learning. I am so happy that I quit my job and took that decision because I have not missed a single milestone from their first walk or their first word. No going back, only grateful for the memories I chose,” elaborated Shah.
