A senior UAE diplomat has reaffirmed the country’s unwavering political and humanitarian support for the Palestinian cause, describing its commitment as “principled and ongoing.”
Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, shared a group photo on X featuring himself alongside foreign ministers from Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The photo was taken during a ministerial meeting in Antalya, Turkey, which aimed to support the implementation of the two-state solution and foster lasting peace in the Middle East.
“The UAE reaffirms its political and humanitarian role in supporting the Palestinian cause, with our relief aid making up 42% of the total assistance provided to Gaza and its people,” Dr. Gargash wrote in his post.
The UAE has topped the list of countries providing aid to Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. According to the latest figures, the country has contributed $828 million (Dh3.04 billion) in humanitarian assistance from the start of the conflict in October 2023 through November 2024.
As one of the first nations to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the UAE dispatched relief supplies and medical aid across land, air, and sea routes soon after the bombings began in 2023.
On the diplomatic front, the UAE has repeatedly called for a ceasefire in Gaza. During a recent meeting in Abu Dhabi with Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, underscored the importance of de-escalation, the release of hostages, and an immediate ceasefire.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) noted that Sheikh Abdullah also “reiterated the urgent need to advance a serious political horizon for the resumption of negotiations to achieve a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.”
The discussions also emphasized the need to guarantee the safe, continuous, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
