The UAE has reached a groundbreaking milestone in the aviation sector as the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre successfully recorded over 1 million air traffic movements in 2024, solidifying the nation’s position as a global aviation hub.

The announcement was made by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), highlighting this achievement as a significant reflection of the country’s dedication to excellence and innovation in aviation.

This demonstrates the UAE’s strategic role in global air travel, supported by its advanced infrastructure, efficient operational systems, and prime location; underscores the UAE’s ability to manage growing air traffic demands while ensuring smooth and safe operations for airlines worldwide.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of GCAA, expressed the significance of this accomplishment, emphasizing that it not only marks a numerical achievement but also reflects the UAE’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its aviation sector. He attributed the success to national initiatives that foster innovation and growth in civil aviation.

“This achievement reflects the UAE’s capacity to deliver innovative solutions that enhance aviation operations. With over 20% growth in air traffic in the last two years, the UAE is equipped to handle even higher volumes in the future,” said Al Marri.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, praised the dedication of the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre’s team for achieving this milestone. He credited their years of planning, innovation, and collaboration with aviation partners for the success, noting that the centre has experienced a remarkable 10.3% growth in air traffic in 2024 alone.

The one-millionth air traffic movement occurred on December 22, 2024, with the arrival of Emirates Flight 305 from Shanghai, marking a historic moment for the centre and highlighting its progress in integrating cutting-edge technologies to optimize airspace management.

This achievement also aligns with the UAE’s broader vision of leadership, innovation, and sustainability. In 2024, the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre incorporated sustainable practices that contributed to the UAE’s environmental goals and improved the efficiency of air traffic systems. The centre’s ability to efficiently handle rising demand, while adhering to high safety standards, strengthens the confidence of global airlines in UAE aviation services.
