A recent study suggests that the UAE is experiencing a demand for elite household staff, partly driven by the region’s strict work-from-office policies. Many parents are finding it challenging to juggle work commitments, traffic, and childcare. We heard from Lynsay Kilbane, Founder of The Mama Consultancy, who explained how “elite staffing in the Emirates has evolved significantly over the past five years, fueled by the influx of wealthy expats and changing needs of local residents.”

“More families are seeking professionally trained individuals to elevate their lifestyles, leading to a sharp rise in specialist roles as families become increasingly specific and discerning in their requirements,” she said. Kilbane noted that roles such as maternity nurses, highly qualified nannies, and traditional governesses are consistently in demand, as affluent families appreciate the support these professionals offer.

With both parents working in many households today, demand for such staff has surged. Even when one parent stays at home, couples recognize the value of having a qualified, educated childcare professional to support their children at every stage, from caring for a newborn to preparing for boarding school or university.

In recent months, there has been an increase in requests for service staff as well, with niche positions like full-time nannies gaining popularity as they manage everything from driving children to appointments and ensuring wardrobes are well-stocked, to organizing birthday parties and other events, given both parents are working.

There have been many reports suggesting flexible work hours in the UAE, with many also advocating for hybrid workspaces. The traffic between Sharjah and Dubai has increased a lot in recent years, with employees complaining that it takes up to 5 hours of their productivity.
