In a public statement released on Tuesday, the UAE’s foreign ministry stressed the nation’s “unwavering position towards the unity of Lebanon, its national sovereignty, and its territorial integrity.”

UAE leadership has demonstrated immediate support for Lebanon as events escalate in the regional war. UAE President and Abu Dhabi ruler Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed directed the delivery of an urgent $100 million relief package in aid of the people of Lebanon. The foreign ministry emphasized the UAE’s “deep concern over developments in Lebanon, as well as the repercussions of this dangerous situation and impact on regional stability.”

As tensions escalated in the region, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, delivered the UAE statement at the General Debate of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly. In his address, Al Nahyan highlighted the several atrocities in the region, including the UAE’s friction with Sudan and crises unfolding in Yemen, Syria, and Libya simultaneously.

According to WAM, the UAE Minister of State urged member nations present at the UN General Assembly to call for an “immediate and lasting ceasefire” in Gaza. In his address, the UAE head of state expressed regret “to see the war spread to Lebanon, at a time when we [UAE] were hoping for an announcement about reaching a deal to end the war on Gaza.” This sentiment was echoed by the UAE’s foreign ministry, reaffirming the “importance of providing full protection to civilians according to international law and treaties.”
