Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the launch of a new competition aimed at encouraging filmmakers to create short films highlighting the causes and risks associated with traffic accidents. The competition, titled Road Safety Film Festival, invites university and postgraduate filmmakers between the ages of 18 to 35 to participate.
The competition is divided into three categories, with the first-place winners in each receiving certificates of achievement, recognition, and cash prizes. Submissions for the competition will open on April 7, 2025, and close on July 14, 2025. Participants can submit their entries through the competition portal available on the RTA website, where detailed information on eligibility, evaluation criteria, and submission guidelines is provided.
Films can be submitted individually or in teams of up to three members. Participants are allowed to submit multiple entries across different categories, provided all films are original and produced by the participants themselves. The films should make a meaningful contribution to raising awareness about road safety by addressing key traffic challenges.
The competition will focus on three main categories:
- The dangers of sudden lane departure
- The risks associated with driving distractions
- Unsafe behaviors involving the use of bicycles and electric scooters
Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, explained that the topics were chosen based on recent traffic data. He highlighted that sudden lane departures and driver distractions were identified as major contributors to fatal traffic accidents. Additionally, a third category was introduced to address the growing concerns over unsafe behaviors among bicycle and e-scooter riders, reflecting the increasing use of soft mobility options in recent years.
Through this initiative, RTA aims to engage young filmmakers in a creative effort to educate the public about road safety and promote safer driving behaviors in Dubai.
